Qualifications

Bunyak Research Associates is a small, woman-owned business that is a State of Colorado certified Disadvantaged Business Entity and Emerging Small Business. As an owner-operated company, Dawn Bunyak is dedicated to adapting and customizing her services for each client, an advantage over larger cultural resource companies that results in products consistently exceeding clients’ expectations. The principal has a Master’s degree from the University of Colorado-Denver.

Dawn Bunyak established the company, Bunyak Research Associates, in Colorado in 2001, after working in the public sector since 1995. Her technical expertise in historic preservation and with the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) was honed during her work as a historian and cultural resource specialist in the Cultural Resources and National Register of Historic Places program of the National Park Service (NPS), Department of the Interior. While an employee of the NPS, Bunyak prepared successful nominations for a boundary increase for the Silverton (Colorado) National Historic Landmark district; two National Historic Landmarks, the Shenandoah-Dives Mill (Silverton, CO) and the Grant-Kohrs Ranch (Deer Lodge, MT); and prepared a national thematic context on flotation (mining) mills.

Bunyak Research Associates has continued this service of excellence by consistently producing high-quality contexts, surveys, nominations, and documentation of Colorado’s historic resources for its clients through direct contracts and as a sub-consultant. Clients have included, but not limited to, the Colorado Department of Transportation, environmental engineering firms, City of Westminster, Humboldt Street Neighborhood Association, and Department of the Interior Historic American Engineering Records division.
